About CHG

The mission of the Center for Health Geographics is to develop and support research innovation through integration of geographic information science, medical informatics, community informatics, and public health.

Our areas of research emphasis include:

§  Geospatial Technologies and Standards for Health Surveillance

§  Spatial and Temporal Contexts of Health Behaviors and Health Outcomes

§  Space-Time Models for Investigating Disease and Mortality Trends

Established in 2008, our interdisciplinary center has expertise in geographic information science, social science, clinical epidemiology, medical and community informatics, and health services research and includes 10 core faculty members, 5 professional staff members, and a team of PhD and Masters-level graduate assistants.

Our center provides unique opportunities for collaboration among researchers, clinicians, and public health professionals to investigate the role of the environment in human health.   We provide theoretical and methodological expertise to examine spatial and temporal variations in population health, healthcare access, and social and physical determinants of health behaviors and outcomes.

We have established partnerships with research units across the university and are also collaborating with academic, governmental, and non-profit agencies external to the university.
